Unavoidable Attraction

Writer's picture: Kasya DasKasya Das

lohacumbaka nyāyaḥ (iron and magnet)

Iron is always naturally attracted to the magnet.

Kṛṣṇa means all-attractive. That is the appropriate privilege of the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If God is not all-attractive then He cannot be marked as God. All entities are like small dust-pieces of iron, which are always attracted toward the magnet. That is true in one way or another We are all hankering after Kṛṣṇa only. We are just not aware of that. The only problem is that we do not recognize it as such. We are distracted by external manifestations of Kṛṣṇa's Māyā, the material energy, whose purpose is to cover our direct communion with God. It can be compared to a bar between the magnet and iron particles, preventing them to come in direct contact with the magnet, yet still being attracted to the magnet. In the same way, we are experiencing the attractive power of Kṛṣṇa, which is indirectly displayed before our senses through various wonderful, and amazing natural phenomena, but we still lack the direct touch with Kṛṣṇa. The foremost form of such attraction is the attraction between the opposite sex. That is the unfortunate state of material conditional life.
