The Biggest Supporter

latāvṛkṣa nyāyaḥ (creeper leaning against the tree)

Tender creepers need the support of a larger tree in order to grow nicely.

When we are young, very rich, famous, and so on, we feel very strong and self-conceited. Then we very easily forget that once we were a tender creeper, who needed the support of a large tree to become, what we are now. But other times we have the direct experience of us being insignificant in nature, regardless of what big or small status we temporarily inhabit in the material world. In any case, the eternal fact of our spiritual nature is that we are very small, and God is very great. We always need His ever-able support for our hundred percent proper existence and bliss. That is the essence of this sūtra.
