Andha-paramparayā nyāyaḥ (blind lead another blind)
One blind man needs to go to a neighbouring village. In good faith he is seeking an able help from someone else. Another blind man takes his hand and starts to lead him, promising to take him to next village. The first man foolishly thanks him for the help. After a short walk they both fall into a ditch.
This is everyday situation of this world. In any field of day to day work, be it in social, political, religious, scientific or educational field, there are always-ready cheaters, who present themselves as great knowers. At the end the result is once again ending up in the ditch,. The reaction of being blind leader is greater than that of blindly follower. This is in principle described in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.6.11: “Low-class people, due to their gross ignorance, introduce a system of religion that deviates from the Vedic principles. Following their own mental concoctions, they automatically fall down into the darkest regions of existence." And in Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.5.31 it is stated: “Persons who are strongly entrapped by the consciousness of enjoying material life, and who have therefore accepted as their leader or guru a similar blind man attached to external sense objects, cannot understand that the goal of life is to return home, back to Godhead, and engage in the service of Lord Viṣṇu. As blind men guided by another blind man miss the right path and fall into a ditch, materially attached men led by another materially attached man are bound by the ropes of fruitive labor, which are made of very strong cords, and they continue again and again in materialistic life, suffering the threefold miseries.”
Such is a sad fate of being spiritually blind.
