śālisamṛddhau kodravāśanatyāga nyāyaḥ (taking fine rice, leaving coarse rice)
Better quality rice is preferred to use instead of an ordinary one.
This is commonplace logic. Men are happy with ordinary or even low-quality usable unless there is superior quality available. This is also a principle of Kṛṣṇa consciousness mentioned in Bhagavad-gītā 2.59. The full verse goes thus:
viṣayā vinivartante
nirāhārasya dehinaḥ
rasa-varjaṁ raso 'py asya
paraṁ dṛṣṭvā nivartate
Naturally, every living entity develops taste to enjoy certain sense objects, which surrounds it or to be precise, gets habituated to enjoy on a certain level of quality. It would be artificial to preach to such a person to give up that liking. The solution is to give him the opportunity to taste a higher level of enjoyment. Then very easily, without thinking twice, gives up what is lower. This is the meaning of the verse, the successful progress on the path of yoga. One can observe this even when dealing with children. If a parent sees that his child plays with something undesirable, he simply gives him something better, and the child just throws away the other thing.
